Command Rules
Where many Twitch channels use a handful of sound alerts or gifs, we have hundreds of high-quality
video overlays tailor-made for the stream. Rather than tie these to channel points, bits, donations, or special users, I've opted
to make them freely available to anyone, anytime.
This means all viewers have the power to voice their own
reactions to the content, share a unique dialogue with me while broadcasting, and live-edit the stream
to be more entertaining and memorable for everybody watching.
We have something really special going on here. I love seeing how you all add value to our
experience together. As the saying goes though:
"With great power comes great responsibility."
For the benefit of everyone, Please follow these guidelines when using commands:
1. Keep it relevant
Use commands to react to what's happening on the broadcast. If you'd like to see an ideal example of commands in action,
here's a clip.
2. Add to the mood!
Games have lots of atmosphere worth commenting on! If things are scary, try a spooky command. Confused? Disappointed? Are you hyped? Want to encourage Knaps or celebrate a victory? We've got commands for all of these. We even have a bunch of scenery-specific commands for places, NPCs, and game design elements.
3. Interact with Knaps
Use commands to react to things that Knaps is saying during the broadcast. This can be a fun way to add your sentiment to the conversation!
4. Don't fire commands randomly.
Newer viewers sometimes want to see what the different commands do, and they rapidly "test them out". This can be very jarring and disruptive for everyone else. Most commands come from pop culture, and are easily discoverable online. If you're really dying to see one, you can always ask. Just don't hijack the stream at our expense.
5. Don't spam, don't beat a dead horse.
Using one of the "RIP" commands every single death gets old, fast. We don't need a "LUL" message every time something funny happens. Save them for those particularly juicy moments.
6. Don't disrupt meaningful content.
Please don't use commands when you know they'll disrupt a cutscene or important character dialogue. It's fine to interrupt Knaps, though :)
7. Don't use commands to reply to other viewers' messages.
Not everyone was following your conversation, so triggering commands will basically disrupt everyone else (as well as ruin my clips with irrelevant stuff).
8. Don't set up your own joke and use a command as a punchline.
Same as above. Remember that the stream is for everyone viewing it, including people not following chat or those watching clips in the future.
9. Don't use commands to say hello or goodbye.
If everyone does it, it gets disruptive and spoils clips. There are channel point redeems to express your salutations that don't interrupt the footage!
10. There is no tenth guideline.
I just needed a tenth so that I could call these "the ten 'command'ments" :P
Thank you.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this, and for making our community more fun with your commands! If you have any questions about how to best utilize the commands, feel free to ask during stream or in the DMs!
